Introduction |
|
| |
This component aims to strengthen the FCE, Islamabad, GCETs Multan and UE Multan Campus. The major thrust of the project interventions for this component is on UE’s and FCE’s Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program that prepares teachers for elementary schools. Project initiatives aim to build capacity at both individual and institutional levels with considerable stress on learner centered approaches through exposure to national and international good practices, need-based trainings and provision of knowledge resources. The project concentrates on Practicum and Internship offerings. These two offerings are interlinked and have a strong bearing on preparation of the student-teacher. |

Library Working Group |
|
| |
CPBEP is not only working for the strengthening and facilitating the systems and procedures of different partner institutions but also supporting them in building knowledge resources. For this, both soft and hardware, inform of computers, software, books and journal etc, are being provided to the partners institutions. With Provision of resources, the project simultaneously is focusing on managing the resources by capacity building of the faculty/ staff involved. Formation of library working groups (LWG) is one such attempt. Through a consultant the project has identified the gaps that need to be addressed for the effective utilization of these information resources. Now various activities will be conducted to update the members of the library working group and to enhance their capacity for management and administration through various means. A set of guidelines has also been developed for optimal utilization of available library resources in consultation with LWG. Lately an exposure visit has been arranged for the LWG members. They visited different renowned libraries in Lahore and observed the data administration techniques and optimal resource utilization though various linkages. |

Participatory Planning Toolkit for DSD |
|
| |
Considering the rapidly growing need to replace traditional methods of top-down approach of planning to Participatory approach, DSD, with CPBEP support also developed a participatory model of teacher development for its Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Framework. It envisages a participatory model of teacher development whereby teachers, their mentors and all stake-holders are supposed to play a pro-active role not only in implementing CPD activities but also in planning such activities. The Participatory Planning Toolkit mapped the process for assessing the local situation from the quality perspective, and acquiring training needs from primary schools through the clusters defined under the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Framework.
With support from international and national TA, DSD team developed the first rollout plan for piloting the Participatory Planning Process in six districts out of the twelve where CPD framework is functional. DSD has taken ownership of the process by allocating financial allowance in the annual budget for undertaking the printing and cluster level training expenses which suggests DSD’s commitment to institutionalize the process.

Virtual Learning Environment Workshop |
|
| |
A four-day training workshop was conducted for the core team members of VLEWG. The training was facilitated by AKU-IED staff members with project support. A total of 15 participants attended the course which mainly focused on:
• Introduction to the principles of instructional design for incorporating VLE in face-to-face instruction.
• Hands-on training for developing course website and managing online courses.
• Familiarization with the VLE implementation at AKU.
• Familiarization with the VLE protocols and e-mentoring process.
• Development of action plans for the implementation of VLE in the participating institutions.
The workshop facilitated the members to initiate the implementation of action plans developed to institutionalize the virtual learning culture. The training course facilitated the members from partner institutions to finalize the protocols for selecting a course for web based instruction; e-links among peer institutions in the province are now established. Protocols to virtually connect all institutions were also developed and tested through on-line discussion forums. The built capacity of faculty members thus supports the partner institutions to institutionalize the knowledge in a sustainable manner.
